Nottingham Contemporary is a leading non-profit, free-to-access contemporary art institution, which is committed to engaging with people from across our city and around the world through our ground-breaking work with artists, creative practitioners, audiences, and our partners. Collaboration and co-production are at the heart of what we do and our approach is open-ended, always seeking conversation before answers. We are deeply connected and embedded in our city, and are committed to building relationships and creating work together.
We are at an important moment in Nottingham Contemporary’s history as we embark on a transformative process of rearticulating our purpose and shaping our future with our new Director, Salma Tuqan.
We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Chief Curator (Maternity Cover) to manage and deliver a dynamic programme of exhibitions – spanning new commissions, solo shows and thematic exhibitions – live programmes, performances, and related curatorial projects.
As Chief Curator (Maternity Cover), you will oversee the production and delivery of the artistic programme, as well as the development of external partnerships and collaborations. You will line-manage the Exhibitions team and the Live Programmes team comprising two curators and two assistant curators and be an integral member of the Senior Leadership Team, contributing to cross-departmental strategic work.
With strong self-initiative, your excellent relationship management skills will mean you are a natural collaborator with a flair for written and verbal communication.
Your main accountabilities will include:
- Managing the production and delivery of Nottingham Contemporary’s artistic programme, including exhibitions, live programmes, performances and related curatorial projects
- Leading an integrated approach to artistic programming across the Exhibitions, Live Programmes and Learning teams, working closely with the Director and Head of Learning
- Managing the staff, budget and responsibilities of Nottingham Contemporary’s Exhibitions and Live Programmes teams
- Fundraising additional income for Nottingham Contemporary’s artistic programmes
- Contributing to cross-departmental strategic work as an integral member of the Senior Leadership Team
The successful candidate will align with our values to be open and collaborative, brave and unafraid to take risks, accountable and resourceful, as well as hopeful and inspirational.
You will also have the following:
- Extensive knowledge of contemporary art and its contexts, as well as an extensive international network
- A proven track record of producing and managing ambitious exhibitions, new commissions, public programmes and publications
- Experience in managing budgets and all aspects of exhibition delivery, including loans, shipping and other registrarial duties
- Experience of line-management
- A proven track record of fundraising and cultivating patron relations
