Director of Curatorial Programs

The Director of Curatorial Programs is a key leadership position responsible for driving the curatorial strategy and managing the development of exhibitions, collections, and public programming at a museum or cultural institution. The role demands innovative leadership to ensure the institution’s collections and exhibitions are relevant, engaging, and educational for diverse audiences.


Responsibilities:


  1. Exhibition Development:
    Lead the planning, research, and execution of exhibitions that align with the museum’s mission. Work with a diverse range of artists, curators, and external collaborators to create dynamic and thought-provoking exhibitions.

  2. Collection Growth and Management:
    Oversee the acquisition, care, and preservation of the museum’s permanent collection. Ensure the collection is well-maintained and strategically expanded to reflect historical and contemporary relevance.

  3. Leadership and Team Development:
    Supervise and mentor curatorial staff, promoting professional growth and collaboration across departments. Foster a creative and inclusive work environment.

  4. Public Programming and Engagement:
    Develop public-facing programs, including lectures, exhibitions, and publications, to engage and educate a broad audience. Represent the museum in external relations, including media and public appearances.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 8-10 years of curatorial leadership experience in museums or cultural institutions.

  • Advanced degree in art history, museum studies, or related fields.

  • Proven expertise in exhibition curation, collection management, and strategic planning.

  • Strong leadership, communication, and public speaking skills.

The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of contemporary and historical curatorial practices. They should be able to create exhibitions that reflect both artistic and social significance, engage diverse audiences, and support the institution’s mission for public engagement and education.
