Luisa Catucci Gallery

Luisa Catucci Gallery traces its origins to 2009, when Italian curator and artist Luisa Catucci founded Cell63 artplatform in Berlin's Schillerkiez neighbourhood, a dedicated space created to showcase and support emerging international artists. As director until December 2016, Catucci shaped Cell63 into an environment where young talents could exhibit, collaborate and develop their practice, laying the groundwork for what would follow.

In January 2017, Catucci took this foundation a step further with the establishment of Luisa Catucci Gallery, expanding the mission of Cell63 into an internationally oriented programme centred on mid-career and established artists. Built around a distinctive six-week rotation of exhibitions, complemented by artist talks, cultural presentations and networking events, the gallery quickly built a reputation of its own within Berlin's gallery landscape. This trajectory was recognised in December 2023, when Catucci received the Premio Mannozzi, Italian of the Year, awarded by Comites.

After fifteen years based in Schillerkiez, Neukölln, the gallery entered a new chapter in February 2024, relocating to the historic Lacke und Farben premises on Brunnenstrasse in Mitte, a two floor space with eight rooms situated among many of the key players in Berlin's contemporary art scene. The original Schillerkiez location was not abandoned but reimagined as the Luisa Catucci ARTLAB, a space now dedicated to artist residencies, exhibitions and discourse, renewing the gallery's original commitment to nurturing emerging talent and closing what the gallery describes as its own circle.

The institution's contemporary importance lies in its dual structure, combining a Mitte based gallery focused on the primary market for mid-career and established artists with an ARTLAB dedicated to early career development, a model that allows Luisa Catucci Gallery to support artists across different stages of their trajectories under one curatorial vision. Its curatorial focus draws together artists of different generations, nationalities and cultural backgrounds, with exhibitions frequently engaging themes of perception, psychology, society and existence, positioning the gallery's programme at the intersection of contemporary art and broader societal and psychological questions.

Organisationally, the gallery's core pillars are its rotating exhibition programme, its ARTLAB residency and education space, and an extensive network of partnerships across Europe with galleries, foundations, biennials, museums and art publications, sustained through participation in international art fairs and collaborative projects with curators and institutions. As a commercial gallery, Luisa Catucci Gallery is funded primarily through the sale of represented artists' work, a model that allows it to maintain an independent and internationally engaged programme. Led by Luisa Catucci as owner and director, together with gallery manager Marina Khaykina, the gallery continues to position itself as a connector of diverse artistic voices and perspectives across borders, reflecting the itinerant, relationship driven spirit that has defined its growth since 2009.
