Biography

"Carolina Amaya is a Colombian self-taught visual artist who lives and works in Berlin. Her practice explores the body as a living archive and a migratory territory of transformation. Through drawing, sculpture, and material experimentation, she approaches the body not as a fixed or purely biological entity, but as a site where history, memory, and embodied knowledge are continuously inscribed and reconfigured.

Amaya studied Audiovisual Media in Bogotá and completed a postgraduate program in Morphology at the University of Buenos Aires. Grounded in embodied epistemologies and female lineage—mothers and grandmothers—her work understands the body as a carrier of ancestral memory, care, desire, humor, and pleasure. Rather than centering trauma alone, her practice opens spaces where joy, play, and sensorial experience function as acts of resistance and healing.

Her recent exhibitions include the solo exhibition Ancestral Skins, the Whispers of My Ancestors (Kunstverein Ingolstadt, Germany, 2025), group exhibitions at VBK Gallery (Das Gesicht, ein Portrait, 2024), and the Paxos Biennale, Greece (2024), where she also participated in an art residency. In 2025, she was nominated for the Art Prize A und A Kulturstiftung at Verein Berliner Künstler in Berlin."
