BIOGRAPHY

Gabriela Rios is a Mexican photographer and humanist scholar who fuses photography and ethnography to illuminate gender, body, and identity in masculinized spaces. They craft audiovisual humanism that presents challenges for identities outside of the masculine privilege in Mexico. Their PhD research maps collective effervescence among Tigres Femenil women fans, while their MA thesis dissects Instagram activism by Mexico's first openly lesbian footballers.

What motivates them to participate in Ask A Curator Portfolio Review program? (Max. 250 words)

Gabriela Rios is currently trying to further develop their artistic practice within research and apply for residencies, however it is hard to know what should be featured in their portfolio.
