Gleyson Pereira Borges

"Gleyson Borges, also known as A Coisa Ficou Preta, is a visual artist from Alagoas, Brazil. Since 2016, he has developed a multidisciplinary practice that spans wood, stencil, literature, embroidery, audiovisual works, installations, and lambe-lambe posters, creating strong connections between form, territory, and narrative.

Guided by an Afrocentric perspective, his work serves as a tool for resistance, memory, and emancipation, reflecting on contemporary Black experiences while opening urgent dialogues that spark movement and action.

His practice has been presented in interventions on walls, museums, and galleries, with exhibitions in cities such as Salvador, São Paulo, Belo Horizonte, Goiânia, and Rio de Janeiro, as well as internationally in Portugal and Egypt. Deeply rooted in everyday life and oriented toward collective engagement, Borges aims to expand the possibilities of imagining and inhabiting both present and future through a Black lens."
