Thu Myae

Thu Myae (pseudonym) is a photographer. In 2021, After the military coup and violence crackdown in Myanmar, Thu Myae quitted his software tester job, evacuated and fled to liberated areas. He moved to Karenni (Kayah) State, one of the most intense war zone during the war, and he found the passion of documenting the events and human stories in war zone. Thu Myae started documenting photo as a profession work after he met with senior photographers, also his mentors. Thu Myae participated in the exhibitions in Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Mae Sot and London. Now he works as a freelance photojournalist and currently contributing to the SOPA Images. He lived and documented in Karenni (Kayah) State for over two years and now he is making photographs at other war zones around Myanmar to document the different lifestyles and stories of people’s struggle during war.
