About the Role
The Curator will be a key curatorial position at Hampi Art Labs, responsible for supporting artists
throughout their residencies offering artists a generative, critically engaged experience. The role
contribute to making Hampi Art Labs a thriving as a place of experimentation and exchange for
artists, communities and audiences.
Reporting to the Director and Head of Operations and working in close collaboration with the Centre
Manager and Programmes Manager, the Curator will follow each artist through their three-month
residency, providing studio visits, critical advice and relevant connections. Hampi Art Labs runs three
residency batches a year, each with five artists, and the Curator will mentor all three batches,
offering continuity from one batch to the next.
The role requires an individual who can move comfortably between close, studio-based dialogue and
wider critical and conceptual thinking, and who understands the particular conditions of a retreat-
type residency in a remote setting. The Curator will balance the freedom to experiment in a studio
with a more discursive and critical approach, pushing each artist to question their practice, take
creative risks and develop a clear and compelling conceptual framework around their work.
The ideal candidate will be an experienced, perceptive and generous curator, with the confidence to
challenge artists and the sensitivity to support them. They will bring a strong network, an interest in
experimental and material practices, and the ability to work effectively in short, focused periods,
whether on site or remotely.
The role will also contribute to strengthening Hampi Art Labs’ relationships with artists, curators and
partner organisations, enhancing its standing in the national and global art ecosystem
