The Board of Trustees of the Fundació Joan Miró Announces an International Open Competition to Fill the Position of Director of the Institution
The application process begins today, 15 April, and will end on 23 May.
The functions and responsibilities of the new Director will be as follows:
Institutional and strategic leadership
Artistic, research and artistic/architectural heritage direction
Institutional relations, communication and public outreach
Management coordination to ensure economic sustainability and operational management
Governance and relationship with governing bodies
A committee of experts will assess the candidates’ professional excellence, knowledge of Joan Miró’s body of work and also the works and distinctions that have supported their careers. The committee will also assess their knowledge of local and international cultural and artistic environments as well as their ability for programming, leadership, motivation, financial management direction and institutional representation.
The committee of experts comprises Manuel Segade (Director of the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía), Joan Oller (Managing Director of the Palau de la Música Catalana), Cécile Godefroy (Blanchette Hooker Rockefeller Curator of Painting and Sculpture at MoMA), Rosa Maria Malet (a recognised Joan Miró expert), Members of the Fundació Joan Miró Board of Trustees – Sara Puig, Ana Vallés, Ignasi Aballí and Joan Punyet – and also Oriol Martí (on behalf of the Barcelona City Council), Joaquim Borràs (representing the Government of Catalonia) and Yolanda Romero Gómez, Director of the collection of the Bank of Spain, representing the Spanish Ministry of Culture.
The committee will conduct any additional interviews it deems necessary and communicate its proposal to the Board of Trustees.
