Designed for art writers, critics, and journalists, this residency provides the space to produce insightful essays, articles, and publications. Through direct engagement with the ARAK Collection, participants will develop a publication project.
Program Overview
This residency is aimed at promoting critical dialogue around contemporary African art practices, with a focus on African artists in the collection. Art writers are encouraged to engage with the collection and the art community, producing works that resonate with both academic audiences and the general public.
Grant Details
The fellowship offers an approximate total of USD 20,000, divided into USD 5,000 for research and USD 15,000 towards the writing and publication process.
Duration and Phases
Stage 1 — ResearchAfter selection, art writers receive a research grant to support their study of the ARAK Collection. This phase allows for immersive engagement with artworks, artists, and curators, for in-depth narratives.
Stage 2 — Writing & PublishingFollowing research, writers focus on drafting their articles, essays, or books. The aim is to publish these writings as part of upcoming publications by ARAK Collection, or as dedicated catalogues or books. The ARAK Collection team assists in the editing, design, and printing processes to ensure the highest quality of publication.
Outcome
If your project receives the ARAK Curatorial Advisory Committee consensual approval, it will be selected for development and ultimately published.
