Applications open March 2nd and close 5:00pm (AWST) Monday June 1, 2026 - with the eight-to ten-week residency to be undertaken between February and November 2027. Timing of the residency is to be determined between the Funded Residency recipient and The Farm.
About:
The Artist in Residence program at The Farm Margaret River provides a unique opportunity for visual artists to undertake focused, site-responsive artworks.
Located on a rural property in the south west of Western Australia, known as Wadandi Country. The residency will be awarded to an artist who demonstrates a strong creative practice, whose work will both enhance our engagement and awareness of the area and benefit their own professional career.
The program supports the artist to develop ambitious work in direct response to environmental, ecological, agricultural and/or the cultural context.
Who can apply?
Open to Australian and international visual artists, individually or in groups. Eligable applicants must:
Be an individual visual artist (not a collective or organisation)
Be over 18 years of age
Be able to work independently within a self-directed residency framework
Demonstrate a strong and sustained professional practice
Be open to working responsively with land, environment and site
Residency grant:
The Artist in Residence program includes:
An 8-10 week residency for an artist to work in a site-responsive context
An Artist fee of $15000 will support living and project-related costs during the residency
Accommodation and studio facilities provided on site at The Farm Margaret River
Coverage of travel costs to and from Margaret River
Professional documentation of the residency and work developed on site
Research and practical support, mentoring, introductions to local networks and arts organisations
Opportunity to present the project to a panel for additional funding and resources
A community engagement event where the work is shared with the community
Application requirements:
Applicants must complete the online application form, respond to the application questions, and upload a current CV along with a single PDF of supporting visual documentation.

Have you been to a residency before ?
Applicants are required to submit one PDF document containing supporting material. This PDF is the primary way the panel will assess the calibre, consistency and relevance of your practice, so please prepare it carefully.
Your support material should clearly demonstrate:
A sustained and professional practice
A clear conceptual direction
The ability to develop work through research, experimentation and context
Your PDF should focus on relevant past work, a succinct overview of your existing practice.
You may include a combination of:
Images of finished or in-progress works
Exhibition documentation
Video or audio documentation (as links within the PDF)
Links to previous projects, publications or websites
Collaborations or commissions
Where possible, select works created within the last ten years. Older work may be included only if you briefly explain its relevance to your current practice or this application.
Format requirements:
All visual support material must be submitted in one PDF file.
Applications may be deemed ineligible if files are not submitted in the required format or if supporting material is missing.
