Residency at Rumah Tangga

Our residency is open to international artists for a duration of 1-2 months. All applicants must be ready to dedicate themselves to their

residency period. The residency period culminates in a show and/or open studio that best suits the intention of the artist. Process-based

residencies are also an option.

At Rumah Tangga, we are open to all kinds of creative practitioners – visual artists, performers, gardeners, cooks, writers, teachers, historians,

linguists, musicians, architects, researchers, curators, office workers... Basically, anyone who is interested in making works that respond to the

land and home in a unique fashion.

We offer a creative space and program that is very unique in the Jabodetabek area, and we have seen our previous artists develop works that

refresh and surprise.

Eligibility

The applicant must:

• be a practitioner or other professional (at least 3 years) within their field.

• have English-language ability proficient enough to communicate with staff.

• be in a state of good health and able to carry out daily activities on their own.

Duration and fee

1 month residency : USD 950

2 months residency : USD 1,850

Fee includes:

• private bedroom

• private studio space

• Wifi, electricity and weekly cleaning fee

• access to the library, land and workshop/tools

• free use of any materials on site

We hope to challenge artists to find an essentialist approach to their practice, minimizing unnecessary “stuff”, and maximizing their ideas,

contributing to a healthy, well-functioning ecosystem of material and concept. We do understand that everyone’s work is different. If the success

of your work depends on specific materials we are happy to help you acquire them as necessary.

Funding

Rumah Tangga Residency is a self-funded program. Once applicants are selected for the program, Rumah Tangga can provide an

acceptance/recommendation letter for the grant application if the applicants are seeking grants from institutions, government agencies, or

universities in their country/province of origin.
