A leading Arts Residency program in Western Australia, offering a unique opportunity for artists to develop work that engages thoughtfully with the land.
With a specific focus on site-responsive projects, the Residency provides an immersive space for creative inquiry, fostering connections between the artist(s), environment, and community. It supports artists who are committed to rigorous research, experimentation, and dialogue—encouraging new ways of thinking about land and our relationship to it .
Open to Australian and international visual artists, individually or in groups.
Applicants must be at least 18 years old.
A good level of written and spoken English is required.
Applicants must be professional visual artists, recognised by their peers.
A valid driver’s licence is strongly recommended due to limited transport options in the region.
The residency includes:
A $7,500 residency fee
Self-contained studio accommodation
Opportunities for mentorship and connections with major arts organizations
Project support and initial travel expenses to the property
Access to a gallery space, workshop, working farm, and natural bushland, fostering a rich and inspiring creative environment
Now in its eighth year, The Farm’s Residency program continues to cultivate a dynamic exchange between contemporary art and Country, supporting artists who seek to push conceptual and material boundaries in response to a unique Western Australian regional setting.
The Farm Margaret River Artist in Residence program welcomes applications from Australian and international artists whose work engages with place, environment, and materiality. Proposals should demonstrate originality, thoughtful site responsivity, and a commitment to creating meaningful discourse about land and our connection to it.
Applications should demonstrate:
A high level of artistic skill, originality, and innovation in the artist’s practice.
A strong track record of professional arts practice, including exhibitions, sector involvement, and relevant experience.
A clearly articulated contemporary artistic concept that aligns with the residency’s site-specific focus.
A clear and compelling proposal outlining the intended project and its relevance to the residency’s site-specific focus.
